Are Invisible Braces Right for You?
If you’re interested in teeth straightening services at Holger Dental Group, we have a variety of options available, including invisible braces near you. Traditional braces can be uncomfortable, expensive, and unattractive. It’s important to know whether or not you’re a good candidate for clear aligners. In this guide below, you’ll find out what exactly clear braces are and what makes for a great candidate.
What are Invisible Braces?
Similar to traditional braces, invisible braces are used to straighten your teeth with the use of clear, removable aligners. All clear aligners are custom-made and should be worn for at least 22 hours per day. They can be taken out when you brush your teeth, eat, or drink.
Invisible braces shift your teeth gradually. You’ll have to routinely check in with your dentist to get new aligners every four to six weeks as your teeth begin to move. Because they’re clear and made custom to your mouth, they’re discrete and invisible to the naked eye.
How Long Does It Take to Straighten Teeth with Invisible Braces?
The length of time invisible braces take to work is dependent on multiple factors. One of the main things is how severe your misalignment is. For someone with mild issues, you can expect it to take less time than moderate to severe misalignment.
Another factor to consider is your age. For adults, invisible braces tend to straighten teeth in about one year. Oftentimes, adults will have had braces as a teenager and didn’t use their retainer as directed. This can lead to the need of a second round of braces. Teenagers can expect clear aligners to work in between 12 and 24 months.
Who Invisible Aligners Are Best For
You may be a candidate for clear aligners if you:
- Have overcrowding
- Have slight misalignment
- Have gaps between your teeth
- Have a mild to moderate overbite, open bite, underbite, or crossbite.
- You’re responsible and task-oriented – people who are forgetful or have an extremely busy schedule may benefit better from traditional wire braces
- Your teeth have moved since having traditional braces
